It's early, but it's official:
The Vampire Diares is a hit!
The CW series premiered last night to the biggest audience to ever tune in for a series debut on that network. Beating out last year's premiere of 90210, The Vampire Diaries garnered 4.84 million viewers, a huge number for The CW.

As you might expect, The Vampire Diaries is using every pun at its disposal to advertise for its inaugural season.
Love sucks. Take a bite out of this new show. Etc.
But The CW series has found another very cool, very beneficial way to tie in its theme with its advertising campaign:
Partnering with American Red Cross, The Vampire Diaries is actually sponsoring a blood drive. The endeavor will cross the nation, visiting over 200 high school and college campuses around the country.
Stephanie Millian, director for biomedical communications at the Red Cross in Washington, said the organization is working with The CW “to produce a public service announcement that will feature members of the cast.
The entire campaign is “an opportunity to engage the younger members of our communities,” she added, stating that individuals between from 16 to 22 represent “25 percent of our donors."
How cool!

We thought one of them was especially cool.
The picture below nicely sums up the premise of the show: one hand (that of Stefan) is caressing the face of Elena, while another (you bastard, Damon!) is trying to choke the pool girl. Take a look for yourself:

But the network unveiled the show's official season one poster this week at a press conference with reporters. Take a look at it below and let us know what you think:
In further proof that The Vampire Diaries will be about much more than the romance between Stefan and Elena, John Dahl has been hired to direct the second episode.
On Dahl's resume are serious dramas such True Blood, Dexter and Battlestar Galactica. Look for this CW series to focus on darker elements of the novels they are based on, as the pilot episode's opening scene proves.
Dahl will direct the second episode of the fall season.
In the latest promotional photo for The Vampire Diaries, Elena is properly situation between the Salvatore brothers.
Considering the fact that one (Stefan) wants to embrace her, while the other (Damon) wants to kill her, this seems appropriate.
Also pictured below, a black crow and a pair of rings on the siblings that play a key role on the show's pilot episode. Keep your eyes and ears open for why.
