Jasmine Guy, best known for her role on the 1990s hit A Different World, is coming aboard The Vampire Diaries.

The 47-year old will play Bonnie's grandmother, a character referred to as "Grams" - and one with unique powers.

Tell viewers what that means, producer Kevin Williamson:

"She looks so young because she's a witch! She's a college professor at the local university who teaches the occult. Bonnie starts to think she may be a witch, and it turns out they have a lineage of witches in their family dating back to Salem. Bonnie thinks it's all crazy until she starts doing things like lighting fires."

It was snapped by Michael Trevino, who plays Tyler on the series. We do wonder how Stefan will fare on the gridiron, however, consider how he lack of a human flesh diet has made him far weaker than his brother Damon.

Maybe Stefan is the team's punter.

A new character will be added to The Vampire Diaries this fall.

Fans of the book series are familiar with Alaric Saltzman, a young history teacher that executive producer Kevin Williamson describes as "hot."

Moreover, the show will be casting several local residents in Virginia (where the it films) to play townspeople, including students' parents, the town sheriff and a pastor.

It looks like Stefan shares this philosphy with the iconic rock band.

As the trailer for The Vampire Diaries below depicts, he returns to Mystic Falls for one reason, and one reason alone, as misguided as it may be according to his brother: love for Elena.

Earlier today, The Vampire Diaries stepped up to the microphone, as various individuals associated with the series answered questions from the media. Don't worry. We've summed up their responses below...

Producer Kevin Williamson said the show is “not just a high school show. It’s a small town show. Once you get past the vampire premise, we get to telling the story about this town.”

Paul Wesley said he made a point to NOT watch Twilight, adding: “If there are similarities to [Robert Pattinson's] character in Twilight, so be it."

Williamson added that he feared the series would be mistaken as a Twilight/True Blood copycat, saying: “The pilot is tough because there are a lot of similarities to Twilight. There was no way around it. But we’re switching things around as we get [deeper] into it. We’re not a movie with a beginning, middle and end. We’re a TV series that evolves.”

As for Ian Somerhalder? He'll be “in every single episode,” Williamson said. “He’s the devil. He just comes to town and makes everyone’s life hell.”

As the creator of Dawson's Creek, Kevin Williamson crafted a show based around a teen angst-laden love triangle.

He's sort of doing the same thing with The Vampire Diaries, only this love triangle is based around the sucking of human blood.

At last week's Comic-Con festival in San Diego, the show's executive producer revealed a pair of major first season spoilers. Consider yourself warned...

1. Williamson said: "The town of Mystic Falls has a lot of things that go bump in the night," as he stated that vampire weren't the only creatures haunting the area's woods.
2. Elena will learn all about Stefan's bloodsucking secret within the first few weeks of the series, Williamson said.

On the pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries, Elena bonds with the new, blood-sucking boy at school.

Meanwhile, a classmate gets attacked by... something!

The CW has released spoiler pics from the opening installment of the upcoming drama, as both the images below reveal something about the series. First:

Elena and Stefan make their first public appearance together. The rest of school is left pretty much speechless.

Near the end of the episode, Vicki's body is discovered, bloody and mangled. Was this the result of an animal attack? Or, as she later whispers to her brother, the work of a vampire?
